National Poetry Month: Blackout Poetry

Celebrating National Poetry Month

Blackout poetry is when you take a written piece of text from a book, newspaper, or magazine and redact words, in order to come up with your very own poetry!

The purpose of blackout poetry is to encourage you to dig deeper into already written pieces of text and help you uncover new unspoken stories.

The only rule of blackout poetry is there are no rules! You can go with the flow, blacking out everything except what feels right as you read through the page. Or, you can make more of a plan, writing your poem out on scrap paper before you commit to a final version. Whatever works best for you creatively!
