Mendeley

Mendeley is a FREE citation tool. Click this picture, set up Mendeley, then use it to cite everything! For tips about how to use Mendeley, click here

RefWorks

RefWorks is the web-based bibliographic management software. Use RefWorks to collect references and insert citations into either MS Word or Google Docs. Create an account from on-campus using your Ferrum email address.

Search Alert Tools

  • Google Search Alerts - Just as with OneSearch, you can set search alerts with Google. Receive news, blog posts, anything to your email and folder as it happens: Set Up Google Alerts
  • Individual Database Alerts - Many of our individual databases provide customized alerts. To find individual databases, check out the A-to-Z List. Some of the more useful search alerts can be set in these databases: 
          • Business Source Complete    
          • JSTOR
          • Literature Online
          • MEDLine
          • PubMed

As you're preparing research on specific areas, consider these databases and tools (which can be accessed in the A-to-Z List) for additional research help:

  • ARTStor - Find images of art objects from many different time periods by region. 
  • Country Watch - Build datasets and track census information for any country.
  • 5 Free Online Language Tools - Gizmodo has compiled this awesome list of language learning tools that are FREE to everyone! Try them all, but our favorite is the Foreign Service Institute's FSI Language Courses.  
  • Primary Source Materials - Find primary databases from America's Historical Newspapers to Women and Social Movements, Modern Empires since 1820.
