Overview of Selected Scans

This portion is focused on the secular aspects of music. When it comes to secular music it can be anything as long as it is not religious. The oldest secular music is from the Middle Ages and they are mostly about love, joy, and pain. The selections below are a mixture of songs from movies, marches, and symphonies that are all secular.

"All The Way" is a song sung by Frank Sinatra in the movie "The Joker is Wild." This movie is from 1957 that was directed by Charles Vidor.

Carmen is an opera by Georges Bizet. Carmen is one of Bizet's most famous works and it was written in 1875. the story of Carmen follows a Spanish soldier named Don Jose who is seduced by a Gypsy women named Carmen. Don Jose turns his back on his childhood sweetheart and his military career to follow Carmen in the hopes of gaining her attention.

South Pacific is a movie from 1958 and was directed by Joshua Logan. These vocal selections from the movie consist of "Some Enchanted Evening," "A Wonderful Guy," " Happy Talk," "Younger Than Spring Time," "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Outta My Hair," " There is Nothin' Like a Dame," and "Bali Ha'r."

The World's Best Album of Marches is a collection of different marches. The list of marches have a number of big names in music like Wagner, Chopin, Schubert, Tschaikowsky, Berlioz, Bizet,and Beethoven as composers.


The Symphonies of Brahms and Tschaikowsky in Score is a collection of symphony scores from the Romantic composers Brahms and Tschaikowsky.

"Beethoven's Ninth Symphony" is one of his largest symphonies, though not as popular as his fifth symphony. His Ninth Symphony was composed between 1822 and 1824 and was dedicated to King Frederick William III of Prussia.
